June is Adopt A Shelter Cat/Kitten month and with good reason this is the time that shelters start to see an increase of cats, cats and more cats. June is peak kitten season where shelters see an influx of kittens.

City approves contract, updates garbage rates

The Elk Point City Council opened bids for the Emergency Storm Shelter Project at their meeting June 5. The shelter will be located in City Park just west of the current bathrooms at the end of the gravel turnaround area. Only one bid was received from Mart Brothers for $459,184.50 and was accepted by the council.

Operation Round-Up a successful donation drive

Jones Food Center and First Dakota National Bank combined efforts to help provide for the Elk Point, Jefferson and North Sioux City communities. From April 26 to May 16, the two businesses collaborated to hold Operation Round-Up. Thermo Bond donates to fire department

When the Elk Point Fire Department sent out letters asking for donations, Thermo Bond and their employees responded. On June 6, Thermo Bond presented the Elk Point Fire Department with a check for $2,500.

Jefferson approves laying hens

The owning and housing of laying hens were approved for two out of three properties inside Jefferson City limits at the last council meeting June 5. Variance requests were received from Joan Steckelberg at 111 Main Street and Jessica Praster at 708 Lincoln Street. The council approved Steckelberg for five laying hens and Praster for four.

Food available for DV families

The Panther Pantry has bagged food available for Dakota Valley students and families throughout the summer in the high school entryway.
