Vendor fair, car show held

A vendor fair and car show were held in North Sioux City on Aug. 5. People were able to spend the day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Centennial Park, browsing various vendor tables, cars and motorcycles. Next year’s vendor fair and car show is being planned for June 22.

Newest members welcomed into the Panther family

Every school year there are new faces that appear in the hallways of every school, whether they’re new administrators, teachers, students or students switching buildings. The Dakota Valley School District welcomes 15 new teachers/ paraprofessionals for the 2023-24 school year.

Adams’ hosts annual celebration

Vehicles crowded the parking lot and many were on-hand for the annual Adams Celebration at the state park’s homestead and nature preserve on Saturday, Aug. 12. Festivities began in the morning and went throughout the day with many enjoying the chance to step back in time and enjoy the beauty and wonder of Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve.

Ash Tree removal begins in Dakota Dunes

The ash tree removal project in Dakota Dunes is in full effect as Gardner Tree Service was working in the 500 block of Oxbow Trail on Wednesday, August 9th. Trees in the Meadows and Prairie neighborhoods of Dakota Dunes have been marked with a blue circle and are slated to be removed in 2023 with replacement trees scheduled to be installed in October.

Speed limits changed on Sodrac Drive

At a prior meeting, the North Sioux City City Council had discussed changing the speed limits on South Sodrac Drive and Sioux Point Road. At that time, it was decided to leave them as is. However, by request of city council member Greg Meyer, the topic was once again put on the agenda for discussion.

Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies garner silver at state

The last day of the 2023 South Dakota American Legion State Class “B” Senior Baseball tournament was held Tuesday, Aug. 1 with three teams vying for first place honors.

North Sioux City National Night Out celebrations

National Night Out for North Sioux City was held on August 1 with many coming out to enjoy food and fun courtesy of the local police and the fire/rescue/EMS departments. Burgers were grilled and snow cones were on-hand for a fun evening.

Flickboards: A game for all ages

When children are young and they obsess and develop a passion over a certain sport, show or game, parents try to fuel their child’s passion. In Jim Braunschweig’s case, it was his four-year-old son Brady who had an obsession with soccer. Little did Braunschweig know, his need to fuel his son’s passion of soccer would lead into a business adventure.

Dakota Valley 16U VFW has successful season

A successful season of summer baseball was had by the Dakota Valley 16U VFW team who ended with a record of 14-13-1. A winning streak of 5 games to start the season back in June propelled the squad to regional wins and a punched ticket to the 2023 SD VFW Class A state tournament in Beresford on Aug. 4-6.
