Dakota Valley Cheer State Preview

The Panther competitive cheer squad will close out their season at state on Friday, Oct. 20. They will be the 1st team to perform at 5:15 p.m. Dakota Valley will compete in the small stunting/tumbling division.

Panthers honor volleyball seniors; Munch records 500 kills

Dakota Valley varsity volleyball took care of business against the Lennox Orioles on Oct. 10 by scores of 25-18, 2517 and 25-12. A victory sweep always feels good for the Panthers. It was especially sweet, this time at home, because it was senior night. Sophie Tuttle, Lauren Olhausen and Stella Carlson were recognized prior to the match for their hard work and leadership.

The Dakota Valley administrators gave their monthly reports to the school board on Oct. 9. Kristi Maloney • Elementary Principal Sixty-six students were named Maloney’s October MVPs. (Pictures ran in last week’s edition). The MVPs celebrated with cookies.

NNA calls proposed new postal rates “punitive”

The proposed Jan. 21, 2024, postage increase for community newspapers is nearly four times the rate increase proposed for other users of the mail. In an announcement last Friday, the United States Postal Service announced it expected a 7.3 percent increase for the local Within County mailing rate for newspapers.

New bakery rises in Elk Point

A new business in Elk Point has surfaced from the collobaration of two women who enjoy spreading the joy of home-baked goods and sweets. Kathleen Chicoine and Marissa Tuttle upon meeting instantly developed a friendship and found they had the same passion for baking and soon Elk Point Harvest was created.

Learning about fire prevention

The North Sioux City Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with an Open House Sunday, Oct. 8. Children were able to take tours of the fire trucks and ambulances to see what the inside looked like, tour the fire station and go through a smoke trailer.
