Panther athletes will see new facilities as they travel next year. Elk Point-Jefferson is building a new asphalt track. Vermillion is spending just under $200,000 for a new infield at Prentis Park.

At some colleges, womens sports have increased due to expanded football squads. The leading sport is rowing. SDSU added equestrian. UNL head football coach Scott Frost wants to go from 105 players to 150, so which womens sport will grow at that school?

An NDSU doctorate student recently caught a fish that was 112 years old. A buffalo fish which looks like but is not a carp was caught in Otter Tail County, MN. They caught five over 100 years old.

For hockey fans – if Lake Superior is frozen over, how long would it take one Zamboni to resurface it? Answer – about 693 years. The surface area amounts to 52,020,513 ice rinks and a single machine takes seven minutes to do a rink. If you wanted Lake Superior done in 20 minutes, you would need 18,207,179 Zambonis. The University of Wyoming outreach program will have a home soccer game against USD played in Gillette. The volleyball team that comes to USD will play Lindsey Smith’s alma mater Nebraska Kearney at East High School in Cheyenne which is local advertising executive Jan Poulson’s alma mater.

Gary Barta signed an extension as Athletic Director at Iowa. He came from Wyoming. A few outreach programs to western Iowa would be nice.
