Nebraska football fans can be excited the Huskers are ranked in pre-season. One poll has them 24th behind Army and Iowa State. Iowa is unranked. Other polls may be more favorable to the Hawkeyes.

There will be broader interest in two games – Northern Illinois visits Lincoln, Sept. 14. The Huskies’ offensive coordinator is Eric Eidsness who had been SD State’s offensive coordinator. SDSU is ranked 3rd pre-season in FCS.

On Oct. 26, Indiana visits Lincoln. Their new offensive coordinator is Kalen DeBoer, who most recently worked for Fresno State. DeBoer, from Milbank, played at the University of Sioux Falls and then led them to a 67-3 record and 3 national NAIA Championship as head coach. Indiana has offered Hunter Dekkers of West Sioux a scholarship. He is a quarterback and will be a high school senior this fall.

Michigan State has reshaped its offensive coaching staff. Brad Salem is the new offensive coordinator. A longtime staff member, he has been several position coaches plus recruiting coordinator. Salem was an assistant at USD and head coach at Augustana.

Aberdeen Central grad Josh Heupel is in his third year at Central Florida. They are ranked 15th. His defensive coordinator is Randy Shannon, a former head coach at Miami of Florida.

One of the most maligned assistants at Nebraska was Tim Beck. He is on his third season as offensive coordinator at Texas, ranked 9th.

Surprise item – former Texas head coach Mack Brown returns to North Carolina. He coached there before going to Texas.
