Verylene Ann Burris died in her daughter’s home Oct. 24, 2018 after her battle with Dementia.

Visitation will be at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 2 in West Terre Haute, IN from 4-8 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s village church Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m., with burial at Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn, IN following.

Verylene Merrill was born in Jefferson to Veryl (Dick) and Charlene Merrill July 2, 1951. She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, eventually moving to Indiana where she met Harry Burris. They were married Dec. 28, 1976.

Mrs. Burris worked as a registered nurse for 40 years, beginning in the ICU at Union Hospital and then transferring to the dialysis unit where she became a director of nursing for many years until her position ended. She then transferred to hospice/VNA, a job that she loved and the patients and families loved her compassion as much in return.

Her heart, faith, compassion and spirit is one that will be missed immensely by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Merrilee (Chris) Laesch; two sons, Bradley and Douglas Burris; siblings, Vicki (Rick) Eberhart, David (Mary) Merrill, Mark (Melissa) Merill and Stephanie (Chris) Fincke; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Pierce; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Burris was preceded in death by a nephew; a brother, Paul Merrill; a brother-in-law, Jack Pierce; a stepson, Matthew Burris; and her husband.
