Employees: 15 percent higher insurance costs

After an hour-long discussion, the North Sioux City City Council came to an agreement on insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA) and Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) costs to employees.

The current plan for employees is myBlue Silver 3600 plan through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. The plan has full health coverage for employees with a deductible of $3,600 for singles and $7,200 for families. According to North Sioux City Administrator Ted Cherry, the premium amount for the plan is $20,537.62 per year for the current plan – of which employees pay $1,225.19 per month or $14,702.32 per year for dependent coverage. The city’s portion of the premium is $19,312.43 per month or $231,749.16 per year.
