Editor wins awards

The South Dakota Newspaper Association held its annual convention in conjuntion with North Dakota last weekend in Medora, ND. Results of the Better Newspaper Contest were announced and Leader-Courier editor Susan Odson won four awards.

She placed second in three categories. Stories on Elk Point’s look at an animal ordinance was the runnerup in Best News Series. A story on Bobbi (McLaury) Moehing was second in Best Sports Reporting, and a photo of Hunter Goehring sliding into second base was also runnerup.

In editorial writing, Odson was third for a number of columns written throughout the year.

First place in Best Sports Reporting was won by Kelly Riibe, writing for a sister publication, the Dakota Dunes/North Sioux City Times. Publisher Bruce Odson was third in Best Sports Column, the third year in a row he’s won an award for sports writing.
